Old News: Ghost Chef trailer music

Like I promised when we relaunched the site, we’re going to post about some of the things we did during our long silence. We’ll throw these up under the heading Old News for those of you who are interested in our past experiments and bits and pieces we contributed to our friends’ projects. Now onto our first piece of Old News:

If you’re gonna get a music degree in college, you should at least use it a little bit right?

Besides all the music for the Kindling games, I will occasionally do some music for friends in need. In this case it was our friend Whitney putting together a trailer for her indie game in progress “Ghost Chef”. So I gave her a few totally different musical sketches that I could see working with her little game:

Sketch 1

Sketch 2

Sketch 3

Sketch 4

She took a couple she liked and put them together for the final version (see below). Shortly after this trailer was completed she got hired down at DoubleFine, and Ghost Chef went into hibernation — but you never know when it might resurface, so keep an eye out here!

Post launch playtest data

Now that Bumblepig is live, we’re seeing some reviews and initial gameplay videos go up. Generally very positive stuff (which is awesome), but this one was particularly fun for us to watch. ”Do I NOT fertilize the ones with the dicks?”

These types of videos are just the best. We get to see people playing our game for the first time with no input or influence from us. An authentic initial experience is one of the most valuable things for us to watch and learn from. I love how easy it’s becoming for people to capture video and post it online!

It’s been a while since we made an appearance on the internet, so let’s recap what was lost from the old Kindling site, update you on our future plans, and lay down some ground rules for this new endeavor.

Recap:
A couple years ago we made Hieronymus Bash and released it on Xbox Live Indie Games. It was really fun to make and play. It got a few hundred downloads and a write up in a legitimate gaming magazine (OXM), and then disappeared into the ever expanding XBLIG library. The end.

Future plans:
We’ve got a new XBLIG game on the way… “bumblepig” is very nearly done. We’ve also started up a new Windows Phone 7 game. We’ll post more about both of these soon.

Ground rules for the new site:
1) We are going to post regularly. Updates on our current projects, all the prototypes we made since HB shipped, random thoughts on the development process… This time we mean it.
2) If you are going to make mean comments on our posts they must be funny.
3) Lists include 3 items.

So welcome to the new Kindling site. Feel free to attach yourself to one of our social networking tentacles to stay updated, or drop us a line directly if want to share some constructive feedback on one of our games (or some comedic haranguing).

See you soon. And remember: You are a shining star.
